Boy Scout Troop 1666 was established on October, 16, 2011 and is chartered with Crossroads United Methodist Church.

We meet on Monday evenings in the basement of Crossroad (Accross the street from Ashburn Farm Windmill Pavillion and Greg Crittendon Baseball Park)

Kyle Burkett - Eagle Scout Court of Honor

To the families and Scouts of Troop 1666 and 1154,

 You are cordially invited to an Eagle Scout ceremony honoring Kyle Burkett.

 The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 12:30 p.m. at the Ashburn Library.

 An Open House with food and refreshments will be held at the Burkett residence after the ceremony.

 If any scouts would like to participate in the Color Guard, please contact Kyle and let him know.

 

Troop 1666 is preparing for our 1st Annual Blast Car Race

   Join us June 1 for Troop 1666's Blast Car Racing Event!!!!

Scouts from Troop 1666 have been hard at work carving, painting, and trying to make their blast car the fastest in the troop.  Scouts can buddy up to make a car and then race it in our event.

We will be inviting boys from Den 12 & 15 to come out and enjoy a scout skill and watch us race!  

Scoutmaster Lewis will be making prizes to award for the best overall car, fastest car, as well as the patrol with the fastest combined times. 

 

Rifle Merit Badge Training @ Silver Eagle Group

Troop 1666 successfully completed a majority of the Rilfe Merit Badge Requirements with our Resident Range Security Officer Mr. Terry Poulias at Silver Eagle Group. Twenty-two of our scouts attended the event, each getting a chance to learn about gun safety and practice range safety techniques.  In addition, each scout was able to shoot a wide variety of single action 22's and work on completing quite a bit of their Rifle Merit Badge requirements.

Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation is 635 acres of forest, lake and streams dedicated to offering Scouts the chance to experience the beauty of the out-of-doors.

If you have any questions about tonights meeting, or want further information please check out hte 2013 Hawk Mountain Leaders Guide

Experienced Scouts and Leaders will share with both the new scouts and their parents a few tips and tricks for the week of camp. 

Most importantly, we will be finalizing and collecting all outstanding Summer Camp balances and starting to collect the required paperwork. 

All paperwork needs to be complete and turned in by June 17, 2013 in order to make copies and get organized for departure.

Important Note

  • Everyone attending will need a BSA Medical : http://www.hmc-bsa.org/pubs/Annual_Health_and_Medical_Record_680_001_.pdf 
  • Please sit with your Scout and review the Merit Badges that are offered at camp.  For our meeting on Monday, May 6 come prepared with your first draft of your personal MB worksheet (Pages 27-35) of the Leader Guide: http://www.hmc-bsa.org/pubs/2013_BS_Leaders_Guide_Book_Feb_18_.pdf
  • Print off a copy of Page 35 – the daily MB Schedule and mark down your 1st, 2nd choice of badges for each time period
  • Remember that Mr. Wolfgang and Mr. Lewis will need to approve each Merit Badge you select so target a good mix of Merit Badges – you will NOT be taking 6 badges a day
  • Younger Scouts (2nd Class and below) will be strongly encouraged to sign up for the Pathfinder Program (Page 22)  - This will allow scouts to polish up on their Tenderfoot/2nd Class/1st Class rank requirements AND also complete the following Merit Badges (Indian Lore, Mammal Study, and Nature).
  •  Older Scouts – there are lots of programs for you to take part in – Gateway Design and building, HSMR Iron Man, BSA Lifeguard, C.O.P.E and the Boots and Paddles  - I need you to make 1666 Proud! 

  

FAMILY LIFE MERIT BADGE APRIL OFFERING AND PREREQUISITES

 Update 4/27/2013

Hi Guys,

It has been over a week since we began the Family Life merit badge, and I am just checking in to see how you are progressing.  We completed requirements 1, 2, 6a, 7a, 7b.  Please remember to complete your chore chart.  This is the hardest part of this merit badge!

 I am still waiting to hear back from some of you about your personal and family projects.  If you have any ideas, please let me know so you can get started.

Update 4/27/2013

Troop 1666 is offering in April the Family Life Merit Badge (MB).  This MB offering will be held after April 15th.  The date and time of this MB session is being arranged and will be communicated.  Before taking this MB training you must complete the below information and be prepared to provide and/or discuss this information during the MB training session.  

FAMILY LIFE MERIT BADGE

  • List several reasons why you are important to your family and discuss this with your parents or guardians and with your merit badge counselor. 
  • Prepare a list of your regular home duties or chores (at least five) and do them for 90 days. Keep a record of how often you do each of them. 
  • With the approval of your parents or guardians and your merit badge counselor, decide on and carry out a project that you would do around the home that would benefit your family. Submit a report to your merit badge counselor outlining how the project benefited your family. 
  • Plan and carry out a project that involves the participation of your family. After completing the project, discuss the following with your merit badge counselor:

                a. The objective or goal of the project

                b. How individual members of your family participated

                c. The results of the project
